PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Commissioned by a well-established company operating in the real estate sector, the project involves the construction of a new office building in the Municipality of San Pietro in Casale (BO), Italy. The new development is arranged over two above-ground floors, with a building footprint of approximately 600 m² and a total floor area of approximately 900 m².

THE CHALLENGE

The client expressed the desire to create a building with a strong and distinctive identity, particularly along the southern façade, which features extensive full-height glazing. This elevation faces the Provincial Road and is therefore the most visible from the surrounding area.

At the same time, particular attention was devoted to environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and the integration of greenery, with the aim of creating continuity between the interior and exterior spaces.

THE SOLUTION

To address these two requirements, the southern façade was designed with large overhangs defining the first-floor terraces, increasing the roof area available for photovoltaic panels and providing passive solar shading for the ground floor.

The terraces incorporate large planted beds connected to a system of vertical steel cables supporting climbing plants. Vegetation thus becomes an integral architectural element, providing shade while contributing to microclimatic mitigation.

The concept of greenery also extends into the building itself through a large planted area located on the first floor, centrally positioned within the building layout and illuminated from above by skylights integrated into the roof.
